The Yoga of Business

Join ME in yoga-centered conversation for (and with!) soulful entrepreneurs. In each episode, I applies yoga philosophy to small business hangups to uncover opportunities for growth. My aim is to take what we learn on our yoga mat into the office, to make our work as soulful as a yoga class.

Season 1
Applying the Yoga Sutras to Business

In my first episode, I lay down easy-to-digest background information on the Yoga Sutras, and directly applies it to life as a business owner. "How we are out there in our business is exactly how we are on the inside." In this first episode, I explain Ahimsa, the first of five Yamas (and I tell you what the heck those Sanskrit words mean), and give practical tips for how we can cultivate a nonviolent culture for ourselves, and a healthy work/life balance.
In my second episode, I breaks down Satya, the second of five Yamas (and explain what the heck those Sanskrit words mean), and give practical tips for how we can not only speak truth to our customers, but also experience that same truth within our own life. We can "talk the talk" all day long, but to cultivate true connection with our customers (and ANYONE in our life), we must be able to "walk our own walk" as a business owner. No excuses.
In this third episode, I give a practical application of Asteya, the third of five Yamas in the Yoga Sutras. While this is often translated as "non-stealing," I'll tell you how my teacher, Anand Mehotra, encourages us to see it as "non-ownership." Even as the "owner" of a business, we can let go of our attachment to how our business is — and will be — and nature will flow through us with more ease. And that flow state? That is when the fun really begins.
Here, I invite you to consider Brahmacharya as being supremely dedicated to discovering our true nature... which is pure consciousness... which is confusing to read, but will be easy to digest when you listen to this episode. Yes! We're going deep! This concept is the fourth of five Yamas, and it's incredibly important as a business owner that we examine ourselves and learn to spend more time being a business owner from the lens of our true nature, rather than our Ego self.
Here it is, plain and simple: When we're holding tightly to our business and its "success" or "failure," we have a lot to lose. But, as I explain in this episode about the fifth of five Yamas in the Yoga Sutras, when we loosen the reigns on our expectations, we start to make space for true fulfillment, and a sense of calm no matter the storm.
Today's episode is all about the first of the Niyamas: Saucha. Typically translated to cleanliness, I tell you a bit how I stay clean living off the grid (ha!) ... and then we take this to a deeper level. How can we releasing the things not serving us so we can serve the higher vision of our business? This episode is sure to give you a few insights to chew on!
Life as a business owner has new twists and turns everyday... how do we find contentment in each moment, the ups and the downs? Mollie invites us to walk through fear as an opportunity, instead of panic... allowing us to find contentment amidst any business challenge.
